It is always a blessing when friends ask you to photograph a special moment in their lives and I have always enjoyed stepping back from sports photography and trying something I don’t normally get to photograph in portraits. After spending the morning with these two, I can easily see how people become addicted to portrait photography and yearn for more.

Walking into the shoot, I was a little nervous solely because I was covering a couple of friends and you never know the comfort level of people once they step in front of the lens. I couldn’t have asked for two better subjects, not only were they comfortable in front of the camera, I believe their love for each other and their personalities show in all of these images. 2016 Pink & White Game

The ninth annual Pink & White game kicked off Friday, April 29, 2016 at Trinity High School as Assumption High School looked to avenge last year’s loss to Sacred Heart Academy. The night proved early that it was going to be a defensive battle as both teams struggled to find the end zone. However, seconds counting down until the half, Assumption was able to tie it up 7-7 before the men of Trinity and Saint Xavier High School entertained the audience with their choreographed dance routines.

The child in me always loves being around this atmosphere as the two rivalries battle each other through the two events. The students pile into their sections screaming, dancing and ready to cheer their team to victory. Although I try to remain impartial — my heart will always remain with #TeamPink — so I was thrilled when the trophy found its way back home. I will always be jealous that this was not established until after I graduated…however, at least I still get to be involved

Freshman Football

I always have enjoyed and appreciated the different dynamics between high school and collegiate sports. Trying to get back into shooting high school sports around the area, it was a lot of fun covering Greenwood and South Warren High School last night.

While the drives may be shorter and not relying on the passing game as much, the competitiveness in these young men cannot go without saying. With the score being passed back and forth through the two teams, the game-winning drives were all coming down to who was going to maintain possession last.

I wrote on my Facebook wall that I think I met my match with sports-action photography when I met these three cuties — meet Lawson, Liam, and Londyn, the Hoffer triplets. I was very fortunate to find the Bowling Green Moms of Multiples group and I am so grateful at the families that have opened up to letting me come photograph them and their families.

Going into it I was a little worried because I knew immediately I was going to be outnumbered with the number of kiddos that I was going to capture and there’s always the chance at their age they’re not going to open up to a stranger, let alone a stranger with a huge camera in their hands. But I had so much fun on this shoot!! These three kids have the best personalities and so separate from the other. I would sign up for photographing them any time — Zack and Ashley, just let me know when you’re ready to go again

Their mom suggested that they eat watermelon and let their love for watermelon shine through the pictures.

Needless to say, I think we’ve got some good ones here:

I love weddings (how can you not??) — whether it be attending as a guest or as a photographer! Yesterday I was able to do a little bit of both. My cousin finally decided to settle down and get married. Although it was a little toasty in the afternoon sun, it was such a beautiful little ceremony out by the shoreline of Rough River Lake.

On a perfect, cool-summer-Saturday afternoon — what else is there to do but spend it outside photographing at one of the prettiest places in Louisville. I had a great time photographing Kelli and her wonderful family. Kaiden gave me a run for my money because he was always on the move, but he had the cutest smile in the world when we finally got some out of him. Loved every moment I got to spend with this family. Looking forward to working with y’all more in the future!!

Breaking out of your comfort zone can make anyone feel a little uneasy — and as far as photography goes, portraits scare me to death. Everyone thinks I am crazy for feeling more at home with action photography rather than with subjects that you can manipulate and set up yourself.

No way. Not me. Nuh uh. Give me a field or a court any day.

However, this summer, with the break away from athletics, I wanted to push myself and get a little more involved with portraiture. Just where to start?

Thankfully I found this amazing mother of twins and head of a BG group for mothers with multiples. Perfect!!

Then came the obsession with Pinterest to find creative ideas, tips and poses. After all the studying, and hopefully with a little luck I would be able to come up with something the Emedi family would love.

We went to one of their favorite places in Bowling Green — Lost River Cave, a place I have never ventured to myself in the 6 years I’ve spent here. It was a perfect place to take portraits of this beautiful family!

Now if I could just shake the jitters out and not freeze up with terror when I hear the word portraits — I’ll be set. All I need is practice practice practice and a few willing models.

2015 Pink and White Game

Four schools. Two rivalries. One cause. This isn’t any other football game. These aren’t any other schools. When these four schools compete it is an all out battle. From a football game to dance routine halftime performances.

When I told people I was shooting a girls football game they responded “oh powderpuff, that’s cool.” However, when these ladies step on the field it is anything but girls powderpuff football.

These girls go all out! They’re ruthless, fierce competitors vying for a year of pride and to raise the trophy high once the final buzzer sounds. There’s no stopping them — from the sideline I would shoot the girls just plowing over people — definitely no mercy shown from either side.

It’s an amazingly fun event to be a part of. The girls love it, the guys eat up all the attention at halftime as they perform and each year the school’s come back to try to top their predecessor. Although I am a little envious we weren’t the ones who came up with the idea in time to be a part of it, I always am happy to see what a success one girls ‘Senior Dream’ lived up to be.
