Ice Hockey

I did some investigative work before I went into Louisville to shoot this – wanted to make sure that I didn’t have to have clearance from the school or a press pass from the facility (don’t laugh, it happens).

I walk into the rink, camera bag on one shoulder and my 300 on my other shoulder – imagine the looks I got walking into the known hangout for all the highschoolers on a Friday night.  It was a lot of fun, let me tell ya.

To add to that barrel of fun – I opened the door to the rink (thinking they would have the crowd that we had at our games when I was in high school) wrong again.  The rink was packed.  The glass that I had planned on shooting through was not only the filthiest thing I had ever seen but there was no chance that I could try to shoot through it.

Rather than let the feeling of defeat set in, I paced in front of the crowd 3-4 times trying to figure out what to do, all the while carrying all of my equipment (not my brightest moment).

Finally I decided to slowly move over to the Saint Xavier bench.  What could it hurt, right?  Thankfully, the coaches were amazing and made the boys make room for me on the bench and made sure they stayed out of the way.  The rest of the night was a lot of fun.  Played around with my white balance for the first time (yes, I know) and got some winning shots (with all things considered).

Here’s some of my favorites that I uploaded to my facebook page:
