KHSAA Weekend

It was a busy weekend for fall sports with the KHSAA state tournaments winding to a close.  Up to bat first on Saturday was Saint Xavier soccer vs. Corbin in Lexington.  I am very thankful this game was my first game to cover and that it was still early enough in the evening because I would have completely froze had we needed to stay past dark.  Sad part was I had gloves, hat and scarf and somehow I was still freezing.  I love outdoor sports, but I am not a happy camper when it comes to the weather playing a huge factor on my comfortability.  All I am asking for is a little bit of fall and summer mix – too much?

On deck was the state championship volleyball match between Assumption and Mercy.  This I knew was going to be a doozy as soon as I heard they were going head-to-head.  Assumption had beaten Mercy two times earlier in the season and I knew Mercy was going to come out fighting.  That is exactly what they did.  The game started around 8:30 and almost 2.5 hours later – Assumption triumphed and came out champions after claiming the fifth set for the match.  It was such a great game between the two that I caught myself not shooting for most of the third and fourth set because I was watching the game.  Mercy had nothing to hang their heads about because they fought and they fought hard – they’re going to be an amazing team next season and I cannot wait to see how early they come out swinging to prove that to their opponents.

Here are the links to the full galleries for both of Saturday’s games along with a small slideshow of some of my favorites:
