I anxiously accepted the invitation to shoot this High School Football Showcase which included a full day of covering high school football. At the time, I didn’t really think that it was going to be an entire day shooting in the hot August heat of summer .
It was a great opportunity and I was able to make some great contacts but it definitely was a long day of shooting in the sun. Especially once the last game rolled around, all I really wanted to do was go home and eat a whole meal that wouldn’t cost me over $15 like it would have at the stadium. I was running on about two gallons of water and a small ice cream cone that I finally gave into after much debate of if a $4.50 cone was worth it.
Well of course, the last game had to go out with a bang, a long bang.
After over ten hours of shooting, a very uneven sunburn, a press pass tan-line, and three games later…Saint X blew a significant lead and Dutch Fork was clawing their way back into the game – all in the final 6 minutes of the game. So what’s better than a late come back? Overtime.
Not one.
Not even two.
Three overtimes later and the game was finally won with a final touchdown run and a successful point after attempt to give Saint X the one point 49-48, victory over Dutch Fork.
Time to go home! I wasn’t even thinking about looking at the day’s edits because all I really wanted to do was shower and sit down. Long story short – my phone stopped working and I had a grand time trying to find my ride home without having a way to contact him. It’s funny when your phone stops working how much the universe feels like it has ended. It didn’t help that when I tried to explain to the stadium ushers that I needed back in the stadium to find my ride home they simply suggested that I should call him and find him that way. Genius idea had I not just explained that my phone unexpectedly decided to take a night off and that wasn’t an option for me.
Silly people.
All is well that ends well. Once I had the time to sit down and go through my edits, I was very very pleased with a lot of them.
