Tigers Top Bombers

I have probably been very spoiled when it comes to covering swimming – getting the opportunity to shoot some of the fastest Olympians and college athletes the U.S. has right now.  Also, I started covering collegiate swimming, and honestly never really knew many high school teams in Kentucky existed.

I was a little apprehensive going into Saturday’s meet between the two Saint Xaviers only because I have covered high school swimming and it is no where close to the swim meets I have been around.

But I did know that Louisville Saint X has dominated the swimming world of Kentucky since the 1970s – winning (I believe) 26 straight state titles.  So I packed my camera in hand and headed out to Ralph B. Natatorium.  I was told that this was going to be a “best of the best” situation with the battle of Ohio vs. Kentucky.

Cinci St. X was ranked No. 1 in the nation coming into the meet, and the Tigers are not use to heading into meets as the underdogs.  I can’t say for a high school meet it was exciting because as a meet in general it was a great atmosphere.  This was the closest event that I would get to collegiate swimming with it still being high school.  Several of these athletes have already signed or committed to top Division I programs around the country.

All very exciting.

Looking forward to covering more of Saint X swimming – I hear shooting state is completely chaotic, but who enjoys anything but chaos right?  Bring it on!
